Responsibilities for TAPs

The management of TAPs presents a special challenge. On the one hand, ICT and DT are a National Curriculum subjects with programmes of study and associated requirements for resources and time. ECT is not. It is however, under discussion at Government level through a collaborative program between DATA and Marconi. Collectively however, TAPs tools have the potential to affect teaching and learning in many other subjects. Pupils need opportunities to apply their TAPs skills and knowledge to wider aspects of learning, and to gain further skills and understanding from these applications.

Given the rapid changes in technology and the impact not only on schooling but also on homes and leisure, school leaders face a huge challenge. They need to respond to the opportunities presented by TAPs in learning throughout the curriculum. Whilst currently their are no legal requirements of ECT as a subject, and pupils' and teachers' growing with variable interest and expertise in ICT and DT. They need to provide a cohesive curricular vision of where the school should go with TAPs, allocate resources and support staff development.
