The
ieet has no restriction to its TAPs program strategy
whilst each program engages students aged 10/11 upwards and through to
18. However, the short/medium-term
aims of TAPs are primarily to improve the self-esteem
and raise educational aspirations of under performing
school children. From this basis, other concerns such
as crime prevention, social cohesion and empowerment
become real opportunities. The 'mix' of TAPs participants
is as equally important as the educational experience
itself. Peer group exchanges of ideas and co-operation
under new and engaging environments means a greater
understanding and awareness of each other.
From the Borough of
Greenwich (London
SE) by example, one group of 15 participants are representative*
of a number of junior schools:-
